HM5 – Special Study on Wang Hui, Bada Shanren and Guan Shanyue
This issue features Wang Hui’s A Vicarious Excursion among Rivers and Mountains from the Xubaizhai Collection, printed in its original size. Also included are critiques on Wang Hui’s another masterpiece, Emperor Kangxi Touring the South by experts from the Palace Museum. Wang Hui recorded Emperor Kangxi’s extravagant journey in Jiangnan in twelve scrolls, measured over 200 feet, considered today as one of the rarest gems in the history of Chinese art. The special study on Bada Shanren explores several of his works from the Xubaizhai Collection and the National Palace Museum. In “The Storage and Conservation of Ancient Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy”, an expert from the Shanghai Museum offers practical advice on preserving art.
