Zhong Kui the exorcist, the ghost-catcher par excellence, is undoubtedly the most popular mythological figure in Chinese art history. This issue compiles selected masterpieces depicting Zhong Kui painted by artists from the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) onwards, including Dai Jin, Li Lin, Zhang Mu, Gao Qipei, Hua Yan, Ren Bonian, Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Fu Baoshi and many others. In this issue, Zhong Kui specialists Mr. Li Tianxiu and Mr. Wang Zhende introduce the origin of Zhong Kui and Zhong Kui as a popular subject in Chinese art. Also included are articles analysing selected Zhong Kui masterpieces and a report on Zhong Kui paintings in international auctions.
