HM17 – Special Study on Lu Yanshao’s Hundred-Leaf Album after Du Fu’s Poems
Lu Yanshao is a renowned traditionalist painter active in the late 20th century. This issue compiles Lu’s famous Hundred-Leaf Album after Du Fu’s Poems, which he started painting from 1959 and completed in 1962. During the Cultural Revolution, a third of the paintings were lost. In 1989, Lu repainted the lost pieces to complete the set. Thus Hundred-Leaf Album after Du Fu’s Poems shows both the exquisite aesthetics of Lu’s earlier style as well as the boldness of his mature late works, representing the development of Lu’s artistic style. This issue includes three articles written by the artist himself, as well as essays by other experts such as Mr. Bao Limin and Mr. Song Wenzhi.
