Huang Binhong is regarded as one of the greatest landscape painters in Chinese art. His ability to incorporate ancient techniques in modern ones established him as “the best landscape painter in five hundred years”. Mr. Low Chuck Tiew, student of Huang Binhong and owner of the Xubaizhai Collection, possesses a number of Huang’s works. This issue features landscape paintings by Huang from different periods, printed in their original sizes and with enlarged details of selected works for careful examination. Articles cover academic studies on the relationship between Huang’s personality and his art, his aesthetic views, his style as an expressionist, his painting theories, as well as a market report on his works.
