HM36 – Special Study on Bamboo Paintings

$350.00

A symbol of modesty, moral integrity and resilience, represented by its hollow and straight stems, and its endurance of harsh weather, bamboo has always been a popular subject in Chinese art and poetry. Together with plum blossom, orchid and chrysanthemum, the four plants are considered as “the four gentlemen” in Chinese art. This issue compiles selected bamboo paintings by renowned artists from the Song dynasty (960–1279) onwards, published along with commentaries by experts from the Palace Museum. Also included are a compilation of poetry found on bamboo paintings and a demonstration of bamboo painting by artist Miss Wu Meimei.
