Li Keran is one of modern China’s leading painters. Unfortunately his paintings are scarce as a result of his self-demanding nature. Counterfeits flood the market as demand drives the prices up. This issue focuses on the art of authenticating Li’s paintings. In order to accurately distinguish Li’s work, it is essential to thoroughly comprehend his artistic styles across different periods of his life, the techniques he employed and the characteristics of his paintings on different subjects. This issue features over 70 pieces of Li’s most exquisite works, including his landscape, figure and buffalo paintings, most of which printed in their original sizes. Mr. Wan Qingli, Li’s friend and favourite student, discusses the formation of Li’s artistic style, while Mr. Ma Tat Wai analyses Li’s systematic use of seals.
